Anja Eickelberg is the Director of Operations and Human Resources at Community Compact. She is responsible for the daily operations of the organization, as well as staff recruitment and coordination, community outreach, and international relations.
Before moving to Florida in 2008, Anja was actively engaged in supporting underprivileged people from diverse backgrounds. She taught English to high-risk youths in the slums of Rio de Janeiro/Brazil, promoted the social integration of Turkish immigrants in Germany and encouraged the interaction of Antillean and Dominican adolescents in the Netherlands.
Having experienced first-hand how civic engagement enriches oneself and the life of others, Anja is passionate about promoting the idea of service learning in colleges and universities, as well as supporting local nonprofit organizations in the recruitment and training of service learning students.
Anja holds a MSc in International Development from the University of Amsterdam/Netherlands and a BA in Journalism, Culture Studies and Sociology from the University of Dortmund/Germany, the city were she was born and raised. She continues to work as a researcher for the Amsterdam Institute for Metropolitan and International Development Studies (AMIDSt) where she is currently involved in a comparative research project on the role of civil society advocacy in the defense of public education.
Anja lives in West Palm Beach with her husband Vicente, a graphic designer, but expects to begin the implementation of Community Compact internationally shortly.
